Impurity Removal: Quicklime is added to molten iron during steelmaking to react with impurities, forming slag that can be easily removed, resulting in higher steel purity.

Phosphorus Removal: Quicklime is highly effective in removing phosphorus, which is detrimental to steel properties if present in large quantities.

Reduction of Melting Point: By incorporating quicklime, the melting point of steel can be reduced, facilitating more efficient processing.

Achieving Optimal Slag Chemistry: In both the Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) and Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), quicklime acts as a fluxing agent, helping to achieve the desired slag chemistry and enhance physical properties.

Inclusion Control: Quicklime aids in managing non-metallic inclusions within the steel bath, ensuring better steel quality.

Chrome Recovery Maintenance: In the argon oxygen decarburization (AOD) furnace, quicklime is used to maintain efficient chrome recovery, crucial in producing stainless steel.
